Work experience at Settle - guest blog from Gabby
My name is Gabby, and I am a year 12 student. I study Biology, Chemistry, and Sociology at 6th form, and I’m interested in pursuing pharmacy at university level.
From a young age, I knew that I wanted to work in a field that induced a direct benefit to society, and helped everyday people lead happier and healthier lives. Up until recently, I had never really considered working in the Charity sector, as it isn’t a profession that is often discussed at my school or in my social circles. As such, Settle wasn’t a company that was immediately on my radar in terms of work experience.
After looking at their website, however, I quickly concluded that this opportunity had the potential to be a genuinely enriching experience for me. Their ethos, work ethic, and dedication all aligned with my values, and I felt that they seemed genuinely passionate about the work they do and the people they help.
I applied to do work experience at Settle after it was suggested to our 6th form body by a teacher at my school.
I felt that I could proudly stand behind the work they do, and the message they portray. I thought it was amazing that they helped young people who are so often, and in so many ways let down by the systems that are meant to keep them safe and improve their quality of life.
Throughout my work experience, I learned just how intricate running a charity is, and the extent to which companies like settle bear their values in mind with every decision they make. The team were outstandingly supportive and kind, and they made me feel welcome every step of the way. I cannot recommend Settle enough, not only as a place to undergo work experience, but also as a Charity, workplace, and community.
My favourite part of this work experience was getting to work with the team and help them think of new ways to make the services they offer benefit the young people they work with. I felt that I was listened to, and my opinions and contributions were valued which encouraged me to make more suggestions. I also enjoyed researching for and delivering my presentation on ways for Settle to improve their outreach schemes.
