Settle Advocates visit parliament
As National Care leavers month comes to a close the Settle Advocates met with MPs and Lords in Parliament to share their stories and their vision for a care system that works for everyone.
In an unforgettable finale to National Care Leavers Month 2025 care-experienced young people spoke passionately about their experiences and what needs to change in order to improve support for young people leaving care.
Those that attended the event were able to hear directly from young people about their experience of leaving care. Advocates hoped that by telling their stories to policy makers, with the power to make change, they can inspire the action needed to create a UK where no young person leaving care experiences homelessness.
The message was clear: Leaving care shouldn't feel like no one cares.
Every young person deserves a safe home, enough money to live on, and people around them who truly care.
We all need:
- A place to call home – stable, secure housing for the long term
- Enough money – to live on and build a fulfilling, independent life
- Love and care – a network of relationships and support to help us thrive
Rica (pictured above, on the left) also performed a reading of her original poem Have I Ever Known Peace? which you can read here.
We want to keep building on this momentum and show Government that this is an issue we all care about. You can support the #HomeOfOurOwn through our campaigns page.
